This article applies to ALL Monthly contracts with the Smart Pit payment method.
Since cash payments are done in-person in Japan, we require a 2-month deposit for each product ordered. This deposit is equal to 2 months' worth of fees, or an estimate of 20,000 JPY.
When the deposit is applied
This deposit will be used for the last two bills of your contract(s).
For example: If you terminate your contract for the end of February, the deposit will cover January and February's usage bills.
Why the deposit is necessary
In order to understand the purpose of the deposit, the following points are essential:
1. Our billing cycle is postpaid
2. Cash payments at the convenience store must be done in-person
Postpaid billing cycle
We send the invoices for each month's usage one month after.
For Smart Pit users, the payment period is 2 calendar months later.
Sample billing schedule:

In-person payments
We predict most of our customers are planning to leave Japan after terminating their contract. However, due to the postpaid billing schedule, even if a contract is terminated, there will still be bills scheduled for after the termination.
For example: If a contract terminates in February, there will still be January's bill (payment between March 1st-10th) and February's bill (payment between April 1st-10th).
Since cash payments require going to a convenience store in Japan, we believe it will be difficult for our customers to complete these last two payments personally. Therefore, we receive the 2-month deposit in advance to use towards these last two bills.

*Since call/SMS usage is calculated on a monthly basis, the last two bills of a Voice+Data plan are not fixed. Therefore, we collect an estimate of 20,000 JPY. If your last two bills do not exceed this amount, we will refund you the difference after the last bill has been covered by the deposit.
Deposit refund
Voice+Data plans:
We will ask for your preferred refund method (direct bank transfer to a Japanese bank or PayPal) during the online termination process. Then, we will issue the relevant refund after your last bill has been paid. This will be approximately 1.5 months after the termination date of your contract.
For example: If your contract terminates on January 31st, you will receive the deposit refund approximately mid-March.
Data-only, Pocket WiFi, Home WiFi, Fiber Internet plans:
Since these products have a fixed monthly fee, we request only the exact amount to cover two months of fees. Therefore, there is no relevant refund.
