Since an eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card, each time you wish to install the eSIM again a reissuance is required. It is mandatory to contact us and follow the below procedure for each reissuance.
Reissuance is necessary for the following:
Moving your eSIM to a new phone.
Changing a physical SIM card to an eSIM.
Installing the eSIM again after deleting it.
Moving your eSIM after breaking your old device.
Installing the eSIM on a new phone if you have lost your old one.
※You must be in Japan to complete this procedure. If you are not currently in Japan, please wait until within a week of your return date to send us your request.
Voice+Data eSIM (with Japanese phone number)
Due to the strict laws in Japan, in order to reissue a Voice+Data eSIM, another identity check is required.
Standard procedure:
1. You will need to upload your residence card, Japanese driver's license, or My Number card to a link we will provide you.
2. We will send an envelope to the address printed on your ID with a unique identification code.
We cannot send this envelope to any address except one written on a valid ID.
You must receive this envelope in person from the deliveryman.
3. Once you have received it, you will have to email us the identification code to complete the verification process.
4. We will follow up with a reissuance QR code via email on your desired transfer date.
※Transfers are performed every day between 10AM-12PM.
※The eSIM on your old device will be deactivated during the transfer process (starting from when we send the reissuance QR code). This process may take up to 40 minutes.
※There is a 660 JPY transfer fee each time an eSIM is reissued.
If you DO NOT possess one of the above ID types (Non-standard):
1. The identity verification must be done in person.
2. You may directly come to our Shinjuku office, or we can arrange for pick-up of an identification code at one of our pick-up counters.
We must have at least 3 days advance notice to arrange for pick-up at a partner counter.
3. The rest of the procedure will remain the same as standard.
To request Voice+Data eSIM reissuance:
Please contact us or send us an email at contact@sakuramobile.jp with the following information:
1. If you wish to transfer your eSIM to a new phone or change your physical SIM card into an eSIM.
2. What kind of ID you have (residence card, passport, etc.)
※It may take a few days to complete the transfer; we cannot guarantee we can immediately process your request.
Data-only eSIM (no Japanese phone number)
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reissue the same Data-only eSIM, regardless of whether you would like to transfer it to another device or change the SIM type. Instead, you will need to apply for a new Data-only eSIM.
Procedure:
1. Terminate your current Data-only eSIM contract.
FAQ: How do I terminate/cancel my monthly SIM card/eSIM contract?
To terminate at the end of a month, you will need to submit a termination form by the 25th of that month.
2. Reapply for another Data-only eSIM.
You may reapply through the following link: Apply here
This link will apply a discount to the registration fee.
The discount is only valid if you use the same email address as your previous contract.
We will check for your existing contract before approving an application made through this link.
Please keep the following precautions in mind:
1. We can only terminate contracts at the end of each month. We recommend customers time their application of the new Data-only eSIM for the end of the month, to avoid paying the full monthly fee for both contracts.
2. Our billing cycle is postpaid. The final bill for your usage will be due approximately one month after the termination month.
If you have any questions or would like further assistance in this process, please contact us or send us an email at contact@sakuramobile.jp.
