Since an eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card, each time you wish to install the eSIM again a reissuance is required. It is mandatory to contact us and follow the below procedure for each reissuance.
Reissuance is necessary for the following:
Moving your eSIM to a new phone.
Changing a physical SIM card to an eSIM.
Installing the eSIM again after deleting it.
Moving your eSIM after breaking your old device.
Installing the eSIM on a new phone if you have lost your old one.
※You must be in Japan to complete this procedure. If you are not currently in Japan, please wait until within a week of your return date to send us your request.
Monthly Voice+Data eSIM (with Japanese phone number)
Due to the strict laws in Japan, in order to reissue a Monthly Voice+Data eSIM, another identity check is required.
Standard procedure:
1. Receive a One-Time Password via SMS to the phone number you wish to reissue.
If you cannot receive SMS to your number, see No One-Time Password.
You will still need to complete the below steps.
2. Submit an eSIM transfer form
3. Upload a photo of your documentation
4. Reissuance will be initiated via email on your desired date after all of the above has been validated
※Transfers are performed every day between 10AM-12PM.
※The eSIM on your old device will be deactivated during the transfer process (starting from when we send the reissuance QR code). This process may take up to 40 minutes.
※There is a 660 JPY transfer fee each time an eSIM is reissued.
No One-Time Password
If you cannot receive the One-Time Password SMS, then you will need to verify your identity using an alternative method based on your documentation.
Online Verification:
You will need one of the following documents for online verification:
1. Japanese residence card with your address printed on it
2. Japanese My Number Card
3. Japanese driver's license
※ If you only have a passport, then In-person Verification is required.
Online verification will require downloading the eKYC app, "Liquid eKYC". We will send you a specialized verification link to begin the verification process after receiving your eSIM transfer form.
In-person Verification:
If you only have a passport, then you will need to visit one of the locations below with your physical documentation.

Data-only eSIM (no Japanese phone number)
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reissue the same Data-only eSIM, regardless of whether you would like to transfer it to another device or change the SIM type. Instead, you will need to apply for a new Data-only eSIM.
Procedure:
1. Terminate your current Data-only eSIM contract.
FAQ: How do I terminate/cancel my monthly SIM card/eSIM contract?
To terminate at the end of a month, you will need to submit a termination form by the 25th of that month.
2. Reapply for another Data-only eSIM.
You may reapply through the following link: Apply here
This link will apply a discount to the registration fee.
The discount is only valid if you use the same email address as your previous contract.
We will check for your existing contract before approving an application made through this link.
Please keep the following precautions in mind:
1. We can only terminate contracts at the end of each month. We recommend customers time their application of the new Data-only eSIM for the end of the month, to avoid paying the full monthly fee for both contracts.
2. Our billing cycle is postpaid. The final bill for your usage will be due approximately one month after the termination month.
If you have any questions or would like further assistance in this process, please contact us or send us an email at contact@sakuramobile.jp.
